Shawdene is a large estate nestling in the rolling Berkshire hills not far from Newbury, owned by Mrs Genevieve Mather and the stud is run by Alan Davies.

For many years we have had a great deal of success with hunters and riding horses at county level.  Having become so involved in the showing world and because of our love of shetland ponies, it seemed a natural progression into showing & breeding miniatures. Shawdene Stud was founded in 2005.

Having grown up in Scotland Mrs Mather learnt to ride on a shetland, as did her son, on the famous Dougal (Pictured to the left). Dougal died in his thirties and quite by chance we came across another black shetland, also named Dougal, who also lived well into his thirties.

 

To start our breeding, we have put together a lovely band of brood mares and have had great success with them in the show ring. Our objective has been to produce ponies of good type, substance and movement and we hope to achieve this by leasing in well bred stallions such as Kerswell Muscat and Blackertor Solar Black.
